IT Support @ Coffee & Cake

A Simple Idea That Could Make a Big Difference

Twice a week I sit in a local Coffee & Cake session and help people with what I lovingly call “bloody computers.”

No jargon.
No pressure.
No charging.
Just sitting down with a brew and untangling the small tech problems that feel massive when you’re on your own.

And I’ve realised something.

This shouldn’t just be me.

Why This Matters

Most of the issues I see aren’t complicated.

It’s forgotten passwords.
Suspicious emails.
Phones that “just changed”.
Updates that look scary.
Printers that refuse to cooperate out of spite.

But behind those little problems is something bigger — confidence.

When someone understands what’s happening on their screen, the fear drops. They feel capable again. Connected again. Safer online. Less isolated.

That’s huge.

I’m Looking for More Volunteers

Some Coffee & Cake locations already have someone offering informal IT help.

Some don’t.

Those are the ones listed on the new page.

If you’re reasonably comfortable with everyday tech — laptops, phones, email, updates — you don’t need to be a developer, engineer or cybersecurity wizard.

You just need:

  • Patience
  • A calm approach
  • The ability to explain things without making someone feel daft

Even an hour once a month would make a difference.

If You Run a Coffee & Cake Session

If you organise a local group and you’re seeing people struggle with digital stuff — banking apps, NHS login, email, online forms — this could be a simple addition to your sessions.

It doesn’t need structure.
It doesn’t need funding.
It just needs the right person in the room.

I’d love to help connect you with someone local if possible.

This Isn’t About Me

This isn’t a sales funnel.
It’s not lead generation.
It’s not a clever marketing move.

It’s about reducing frustration, preventing scams, and helping people stay connected in a world that’s increasingly digital whether we like it or not.

If that sounds like something you’d like to be part of, head over to the new page and add your details.

Let’s make this bigger than one bloke with a laptop and a slice of cake.
